Why Hospitals Are Subsidizing Apartments For The Homeless

Posted by @DanHinmon, Tue, Jan 30 12:26pm

The University of Illinois Hospital has partnered with the nonprofit Center for Housing and Health to provide housing for ER “super users” who visit as many as 20 times a month during the winter, sometimes just to escape the cold.

The result: Healthcare costs dropped on average 18% a month for those in housing.

The program makes sense “partly because of its growing focus on community health, rather than just the individual care of patients.”

Is your health system implementing innovative programs like this? If so, how are you sharing on social?

We actually just promoted a program like this where we’re partnering within one of our communities. For those who read through, the partnership focused on single men because there were already existing resources for families, women and children in our community. Here’s one of the posts we did to promote (still finalizing that domain verification for polishing posts from our Newsroom – pardon our dust): https://www.facebook.com/osfsaintfrancis/posts/10156840278957891
