Who’s on Snapchat: The Changing Demographic of the Yellow Ghost

Posted by @DanHinmon, Wed, Mar 15 11:32am

According to Hootsuite, in 2016 only 12% of Snapchat users were ages 35-54, and those older than that were a single digit percentage. It’s fair to assume at this point that Snapchat isn’t going to become part of the daily social routines of older generations.

When you look at the demographics aged 34 and younger, however, things get more interesting. More than half of new Snapchat users are actually over 25 years old and this segment is growing twice as fast as users under 25.

The article shares more details.

It would be interesting to see how much time the 25+ group is spending on Snapchat compared to teens, or what they’re consuming. When I joined Snapchat, I was surprised at how many of my friends and co-workers had accounts. But when I asked them about it, they said they had gotten accounts because their teens were on it or out of curiosity and didn’t actually use it.

Good point, @MeganRowe. Has UVa tried to use Snapchat? Why or why not?
