Twitter Polls 101 – What You Need To Know

Posted by @DanHinmon, Jan 4, 2016

This primer on Twitter polls is helpful, to a point. As @westr discovered when he dug deeper:

• Just tested this Twitter poll myself. First thing I noticed is that the poll shows on Twitter per se, but not on either Tweetdeck or Tweetbot, two clients I primarily tweet from. I would think this limits the usefulness of Twitter polling.

• It has a 24 hour time limit. Doesn’t give peeps much time to respond.

Are you using Twitter polls? Have you discovered a way to post from Twitter apps like Tweetdeck or Tweetbot?

I’ve been using Twitter polls on a limited basis. Day 1 I’ll pose a question and post the poll. Day 2 I provide the answer and a link to our blog post on the topic, and include a link to the poll results. It’s not a sweeping success, but has provided a way to use the function to earn a little light engagement and drive traffic to the blog.

I wrote about this when it first came out – I use Tweetdeck and Hootsuite all the time to manage multiple client accounts, so I find this very limiting. And the feature is limited to two-answer only options, which also limits the scope of the feature.

Thanks Marie. But the feature is not limited to two-answer options. I did a test poll where I had 3 options, but I think there’s the option to do more.

Lack of functionality with Twitter clients is a major downside..

Thanks @westr – Twitter must have increased the option from two which is far better.
