If you’re tired of firing up Photoshop for lightweight image editing tasks, this little tool is good news for you. Called Remove.bg, it can clear out the background of an image in seconds, no lassoing or any other editing hassle required. Because it uses AI trained on images of people, Remove.bg only works on photos of humans for now, immediately separating subject from background and leaving your image clean and ready for whatever you plan to do with it.
Curator’s note: I just tried this with an image of a researcher in a lab with lots of colorful objects behind him. It’s perfect. And it took about 4 seconds. Game changer.
This really is an amazing tool — and free. I couldn't figure out how to change the color or texture of the background once it removed the previous background. Did you try anything to achieve that, @audreylaine?
This tool only removes the background so that you can place the headshot as a top layer to another background or image. You'll still have to use another tool for that, but background removal is often 95% of the time spent on a background swap.

Thx @audreylaine What's your favorite simple tool for replacing the background?
Well, that's a two-step process. This is my new fave tool for removing the background. Then I would take the head cutout and place it on a new background using PicMonkey. I like all the options… and it's also free! 🙂
