SEO and Digital Trends in 2017

This long and technical article makes 6 predictions for 2017 based on Google’s strategic moves in 2016.

In a nutshell, think mobile first, links are still important but not as essential as personalized search, voice search is the next frontier, and videos/images will be a major Google focus.


Great article. I loved #5 and pointing out how huge local search will be.

He made the point to mention MyBusiness, and we should highlight that MyBusiness alone is a very important element that many business have not mastered. You can’t neglect your online directories like Google MyBusiness, YELP, SuperPages, and Bing’s directory.

Google has been dramatically improving their online directory this year and this will be a big focus for 2017 in new online advertising features and more, so if you don’t have a complete listing in MyBusiness, you need to start there.

Make sure you have updated photos of the front of your locations in there, make sure they are verified, make sure someone is addressing all reviews received (and replying to every one) and listing as much accurate information as possible. – these are all obvious, but you’d be amazed at how many businesses don’t watch this.

Google is pilot testing a chat feature in MyBusiness so that people can communicate directly through the directory, they also added other features in the last few months.

I guess, overall, know where you’re at and if you’re at the beginning, directories are a great place to start.
