Facebook will now let Pages schedule Live Video

Posted by @DanHinmon, Oct 19, 2016

Facebook is introducing official scheduling feature for Verified pages; users can be notified about videos up to a week in advance.

To be clear, this only applies to Pages, not verified users. You can schedule video in advance and build up hype for a video, essentially creating an audience before a stream even starts. It can potentially make the live video experience a bit more like watching live television.

Thanks to @Margaret_Marie for pointing us to this article.

This is great news. @Margaret_Marie it will obviously enhance our use of Fb live. I wonder if this will also enable us to embed the video code pre-event into Connect.

I'm learning more about the scheduling feature and found this old post. The "stream key" part confuses me. Do we have to be using third party software? We just do our FB Lives from a smartphone. Also, what happens if you schedule the FB Live for 1 p.m. but don't go live until, say, 1:04?

When you schedule a facebook live they start a "waiting room" that will switch to your live video whenever you start, so if you're a few minutes late it's ok.

We have the same stream key problem as you though. Typically we're just going live from a phone, and you can't schedule that in advance. My understanding is the scheduling only works if you are using a more professional set up with camera/computer/software. Please correct me if I'm wrong, more experienced streaming folks!

Yes, you are correct, @alyssageisler. You can't go live with a scheduled broadcast from a mobile device. Here's a guide I published during our Annual Conference last year: https://socialmedia.mayoclinic.org/2017/12/13/your-step-by-step-guide-to-scheduling-a-facebook-live/.
@MeganRowe, when it's time to go live, you have 10 minutes to actually go live before you have to create a new stream key. You do have the option to switch to Manual Start, which will give you more time. Check out the guide, linked above.
