Facebook has become exhausting. Why are we still on it?

As an experiment, Fast Company’s Michael Grothaus spent 10 days away from Facebook. He expected it to be a lighthearted, humorous exploration about the withdrawals of social media addiction.

“When I started using Facebook again, I had one main revelation: It’s long since stopped being the fun, exciting place it was in its heyday.”

So why hasn’t he deleted his Facebook account?

  1. It would cut him off from some people he wants to stay in contact with.
  2. He believes in the capacity of companies to change, and Facebook execs have promised to make the site safer and give users more control over how their data is used. This is something he’d like to see.
