Cringeworthy Words to Cut from Online Copy

Posted by @DanHinmon, Jan 20, 2016

This article reminds us “the right words can make or break trust; they affect your tone of voice and how people perceive your site.” Five words/phrases to avoid: Utilize, enables, very (and other intensifiers), we understand that, and end user.

I’ll add my least favorite: “Assist.” Ugh. Why can’t we just say “help”?

Which web words would you add to this list?

Thanks for sharing! I’d add “click here” to this list. Links should be integrated in web text with context. Using general terms like “click here” or “more” is especially not helpful to those who use screen readers.
