Getting Things Done (GTD) Training

Sat, Oct 5, 2019
8:00am to 2:30pm CT

Description

Note: This event is open only to Mayo Clinic professional and allied health staff.

Given the nature of our work and the accelerating pace of technology, we all face a volume of inputs in a typical day that far exceeds what our parents and grandparents received in a week. This is today’s new normal for those Peter Drucker called “knowledge workers.” A big part of our challenge is not just doing our work, but defining what that work should be.

In three decades of consulting with some of the world’s leading executives and organizations, David Allen observed five behaviors that led to maximized effectiveness without burnout or feelings of being overwhelmed. When we’re at our best we

  • Capture everything that has a piece of our attention,
  • Clarify what it means to us and what related outcome we want to achieve, as well as the next physical, visible action to move us to toward that goal, and
  • Organize those next actions in a trusted system of lists so we can
  • Reflect and Engage appropriately, confident in our in-the-moment intuitive choices of what to do and what not to do.

David Allen outlined his findings in the New York Times Bestseller, Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity. VitalSmarts™ has developed this day-long course to deepen understanding and provide practical experience in implementing the GTD methodology.

Certified trainer Lee Aase will facilitate this course, which is only available to Mayo Clinic professional and allied health staff. If you are not a Mayo Clinic employee and are interested in this training, contact Lee Aase for information on where it is available.
