What is the best way to get started podcasting?

Posted by Angi Moore @angela_k_moore, Tue, Jun 11 11:46am

Our chaplains would like to start a podcast. How do I get them started? We know nothing, i.e, software, where to host the podcast, etc. @reedsmith and @chrisboyer, I know you both actively podcast. Any suggestions are appreciated!!

I don't have any personal experience with making a podcast, but if it's helpful, one of my very favorite podcasters Kristen Meinzer JUST came out with a book called "So You Want to Start a Podcast." Knowing her, I'm guessing it's outstanding and may have a lot of the info you're looking for. https://www.amazon.com/You-Want-Start-Podcast-Community-ebook/dp/B07KG9Y1CG

I think it would be tough to beat reed smith and Chris Boyer for advice, but to get started there is s solid Lynda Course on podcasting. If you don’t have an account, some libraries offer Lynda access for free if you are a library member.

@matthewrehrl, thank you! I do have a Lynda membership through the library. I will glean some information and pass it on to the team.

Hello, @angela_k_moore – last year, @reedsmith and I did a webinar and presented about podcasting (at a different conference) and we discussed many of the things that you are asking. We uploaded the slides to Slideshare (which answers a lot of questions) here: https://www.slideshare.net/ChrisBoyer/can-you-hear-me-now-a-podcast-primer-by-touch-point-media

We also recorded a podcast about podcasting, with someone who runs the podcasting program for University of Utah Health – you can listen to that recording here (it's almost like a soundtrack for the above slide deck, but also featuring cases studies from UT Health): http://touchpoint.health/podcast/tp66-a-podcast-of-podcasters-talking-about-podcasts/

Let us know if this helps!
