Note: Our Platinum Fellows are all early adopters of healthcare social media and, as a result, have a long view of how both #hcsm and #mccsm have evolved. And so, while gathering information for this announcement, I asked them to provide three words that would characterize their experience of healthcare social media over time -- from the beginning to now.
- Chris Boyer: Community, Engagement. Measurable
- Shel Holtz: Inclusive, Accelerated, Patient-centric
- Matt Katz: Humility, Integrity, Connected
- Reed Smith: Surprising, Impactful, Fresh
Chris Boyer (@ChrisBoyer)
Chris Boyer is the Associate Vice President of Digital Strategy for North Shore-LIJ Health System in New York. He's a nationally known speaker about how health care organizations can use digital communications and marketing -- websites, mobile, social media, et. al. -- to deliver results.
Chris is admittedly opinionated, passionate and can play the ukulele. Other fun facts: draws comic books!
Shel Holtz (@shelholtz)
As Principal of Holtz Communication + Technology, Shel Holtz consults with organizations on the application of online technology to communication efforts. Hospitals and healthcare are focus points of his practice. He has authored six communication-related books, is a regular conference speaker, prolific blogger, and co-host of the first communications-related podcast, "For Immediate Release."
Shel is accredited by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and named an IABC Fellow in 2005. He's a Founding Research Fellow of the Society for New Communications Research (SNCR).
Matthew Katz, MD (@subatomicdoc)
Matthew Katz, MD ) is a community-based doctor and partner in Radiation Oncology Associates, P.A. He currently serves as Director of Radiation Medicine at Lowell General Hospital. Former Chair of Communications for the American Society for Radiation Oncology, he now volunteers for Massachusetts Medical Society and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Matt is co-creator of the Cancer Tag Ontology and #radonc journal club. He's exploring how to use technology to improve cancer care, to advocate for health empowerment, and to contribute to society at large. Feel free to connect via Twitter or Tumblr.
Reed Smith (@ReedSmith)
Reed Smith is a consulting strategist and thought leader focused on the integration of social computing into large organizations. Much of his work focuses on incorporating interactive elements into current online strategies within hospitals and health care organizations.
Reed's hospital experience includes being a hospital marketing director and overseeing product development for the Texas Hospital Association. Before entering the world of healthcare, he worked in telecommunications and professional sports. He's the founder & president of the Social Health Institute and currently serves as the Chief Social Strategist for Gray Digital Group as well as on the advisory board for the SXSW® Interactive festival.
The newest Platinum Fellows will honored at the Social Media Health Network Member Meeting and Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 23 as part of Social Media Week at Mayo Clinic.
