Instagram Account Blocked

Posted by Annette Calteaux @annettecalteaux, Tue, Sep 10 8:27am

Over the last week, we have had a couple of posts that were scheduled that did not publish via Sprout. It happened again last night, so I tried to publish from my iPhone and I received the following message: Action Blocked. Your account has been temporarily blocked from taking this action. Sharing your account with a service that helps you get more likes or followers goes against our Community Guidelines. This block will expire on 2019-09-12. Tell us if you think we have made a mistake.

First of all, we would never share our account with such a service and we are currently using Sprout. Has anyone ever had this occur? I will need to dig in sometime today as we have missed 3 posts already.

Thanks!

We don't use Sprout anymore, but I was still signed up for their incident alerts and there were a lot of them over the weekend. I wonder if that's what caused Instagram to view it as a "service." If so, I would think it applies to a lot of services we use to schedule posts, etc.

Do you get the Sprout incident emails? You can view it and sign up here: https://status.sproutsocial.com/history

Thank you! I received my first incident email yesterday (coincidence?!)…I will go back and review. Frustrating none the less!

Can I ask, who do you use instead of Sprout?

We switched to Loomly (https://www.loomly.com/). It accomplishes many of the same things for a lot less money

I did contact Sprout yesterday and they responded that this is a known issue that they are currently working on resolving. They have escalated the issue to their engineering team, and they've opened a direct support ticket with Instagram to get further clarification.

This still does NOT help us. Our account is blocked through tomorrow. After reading Instagram's Community Guidelines if such activity occurs again our account could be disabled. This makes me a bit nervous as we were going about our business (following the "rules") and this as in issue with our account through our use with Sprout.

Wow. That's not helpful from Sprout. Their integration with Instagram always stressed me out. Can you post from your phone for awhile until they get the problem figured out? Too risky to keep using Sprout.

Once we reclaim access – I will post from my phone for a bit.
