FB Reach - Really Low

Posted by Monique Costa @moniquet, Tue, Mar 12 7:36am

Hi everyone,

I noticed that two of our FB posts from yesterday have really low reach and no engagement. This has never happened before and it definitely strikes me as very odd. Has anyone else seen anything like this on their pages recently? Both of the posts are only showing that 100 people viewed it, which doesn't make sense to me at all. Thanks!

Yes, I have noticed the same thing!

I've noticed the same thing. Plus, I've been posting twice a day for a year and am using 98% original content. When I pay to boost my posts, I get good engagement, views and a high number who watch any videos but my number of followers has not increased. Suggestions?

It's very strange! Do you by any chance have global and sub-pages set up? @stephaniepierre

Yes, I've seen it. On the flip side, I've seen posts skyrocket in reach. I can't seem to find a reason…not even time of day can explain it.

I'd like to bring @stacytheobald and @Margaret_Marie into this discussion, since they track our social responses at Mayo Clinic. Have you seen any patterns in the last week or two?

It seems like whatever algorithm tweak has happened recently is showing more drastic highs and lows. We have an auto-boost set up with a really low threshold set up so all our posts get a little money behind them. Suddenly in the last few weeks we've seen a handful of posts not even hit that low standard.

Yes, we have also noticed the same thing happening on our posts. We have started to see an increase again over the last week or two. We do boost our posts, but we still noticed the dramatic drop in engagement prior to the last couple weeks.

Reported on the NBC newscast this am that FB had a major glitch yesterday and it is suppose to be fixed now. I had trouble posting and actually could not post yesterday. Also my Iphone keeps changing time from EST to CST on it's own.

Yes! That's been happening to me as well. I'm still having issues which is so frustrating! Some posts didn't even post for us.

Leslie, are you inviting people who engage to like your page? That's been a HUGE driver for growth for us. Also if your goal is growth, make sure when you boost your posts that you're excluding people who already like your page from the audience. And only put money behind posts that were already performing well organically.

Here is a recent article on the Facebook glitch from the other day. I thought it was interesting that they used Twitter to announce the issue. https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/facebook-attributes-day-long-outage-to-server-configuration-change/550535/

That's funny about Facebook using Twitter. We have struggled with the highs and lows of Facebook for a while now. Yesterday we posted a story that linked to our online newsroom and within an hour it reached more than 6,000 people. Not that long ago if a story did that I could gauge that the post would be a success. But that's no longer the case. It's more likely to just fade away now. Soooo frustrating.

Yes I’ve noticed the same. I think FB is actively hiding posts from followers and is becoming a paid service only

Interesting! Have you seen any articles about this? I cannot seem to find anything about any new algorithm updates.
