The Public Physician Workshop

Mayo Clinic Social Media Network 2019 Annual Conference

In addition to his Keynote address, Bryan Vartabedian, M.D. will conduct "The Public Physician Workshop" at the Mayo Clinic Social Media Network 2019 Annual Conference. To learn more from Dr. Vartabedian and other expert speakers, please join us!

As the numbers of doctors in the online space continue to swell, hospitals are rethinking how they can bring their medical staff into the public conversation. How do you build a local network of brand ambassadors with your local doctors? And what can you do to motivate them to take the social plunge?

For the past few years I’ve been offering an interactive, case-based workshop called The Public Physician. It helps doctors understand how to think about and begin their social presence. Most importantly it creates the value proposition that allows them to finally become part of the conversation. I’m thrilled to be offering my my workshop at the Mayo Clinic Social Media Network Annual Conference this October.

But I’ll be doing it with a twist.

After delivering the workshop we will dissect the session and discuss what works and what doesn’t when it comes to doctors, social media and your hospital. The process and the conversation will be super interesting: I learn from you as communication professionals, you learn from me and we have a whole lot of interactive fun along the way. What could be better? The workshop is case-based and covers a lot of territory including:

  • The case for online presence and a doctor’s responsibility to be ‘public.’
  • How to build a basic footprint and media wardrobe.
  • Identifying your media superpower.
  • Public profile basics.
  • Patient boundaries and digital influence.
  • And much more….

This session has relevance for health communication professionals and physicians interested in a new format and angle for teaching social media basics to other doctors.

I’m really looking forward to a powerful program and I hope to see everyone there!

I think this will be a super-interesting event. My Healthcare organizations tend not to look at themselves as a digital network – especially formally. For example, how often do we sit down and create a even a first order map of our complete digital network? A hospital is a mode, a physician is a node. What is the strength, type, and directionality of the line (relationship) between them? Understand that relationship – which it appears is what your talk is about- then you could have a much more powerful network effect.

I really enjoyed your presentation. I brought it up at a networking meeting this morning, where someone shared vivid memories of when he was in chemo as a child and how one doctor helped by simply being with him, eye to eye, knee to knee.
