Welcome to Mayo Clinic Social Media Network – Let’s Get Started

By Dan Hinmon, MCSMN Director

ConnectLearnGrow.250pxAs you may already know -- or will soon discover -- we're a friendly, helpful group. Here we offer tips for getting started as well as enhancing your already existing online presence. (Note: If you’ve joined the community as a basic member, consider upgrading. View your options.)

Upload a Photo (All Members)
If you haven’t already, help members add a face to your comments by uploading a photo for your avatar. How: Click on your profile image at the top right of this page. Select "view," then select "update my profile picture." Tip: Use a photo that reflects your personality while keeping in mind that this is a professional community (i.e., more like LinkedIn than Facebook).

Customize Notifications (All Members)
Take a moment to set your notifications to a delivery frequency that works best for you. We don’t want to spam your inbox! How: Click on your profile image at the top right of this page. Select "view," then select "update my email notification settings." Tip: Receive notifications in near-real time if you’re actively following a discussion. You may opt-out of a discussion at any time.

Begin and Join Discussions (Premium Members)
We've noticed that the more specific your question, the more likely you are to get a response. You'll find members who generously share their experience and wisdom. Tip: Alert someone specifically by including their @Name.

Find Colleagues (Premium Members)
Search MCSMN Member Directory for colleagues who share similar interests, and then…connect! Tip: Discovering colleagues who work nearby makes it possible for you to connect in person, as well as online.

Explore Resources
You’ll find lots of content for your benefit on this site. Premium members may access Social Media Basics Certification,  learning modules and archived webinars. All members may read and comment on blog posts and read member highlights. Come back frequently to read the News You Can Use feed, our daily news digest, and comment there. You’ll also find news, information, and links to resources on @MayoClinicSMN.

Here are some options:

  • Respond in the comments…right now!
  • Ask in a new SMHN discussion. (Premium Members)
  • Contact Dan Hinmon, Community Director, directly by private messageemail@HiveDan or phone.

This is an excellent place to make connections and grow your career. We hope you participate and thrive! And as you navigate this new site, let us know if you experience any glitches or have suggestions for improvement. You input is always welcomed and appreciated.

Good morning. I just watched the social media basics video and I was surprised at the beginning where it talks about Mayo Clinic that it did not mention the campuses in Florida and Arizona. Florida is celebrating 30 years this year and Arizona will be next year. I think they should always be mentioned when telling people about Mayo Clinic. Thanks.

Thanks for noticing this, @senist. We’ll see what we can do.
