When Mayo Clinic launched our Center for Social Media in 2010, one of our first acts was to create an External Advisory Board for the Center and for the Social Media Health Network to bring in thought leaders from other institutions and industries, as well as patient representatives, to help us develop our programs. We crowd-sourced the last 17 members so we could identify interested volunteers we hadn't yet had the opportunity to meet. Those members came on board in early 2011.
We had planned for the Advisory Board members to have initial one-year terms and that we would revise membership at the beginning of 2012, but because of all we had going on in our building-the-plan-while-flying-it mode, we...well... procrastinated.
Now we have formalized the job descriptions and expectations for Advisory Board, and we're pleased to announce our new and returning members. See all of their bios.
We also want to thank those who were part of the original Advisory Board and have concluded their terms. We appreciate their help in launching the Center for Social Media and helping it to develop.
We are developing plans for some great projects and initiatives in 2013, and look forward to our Advisory Board's help and guidance. Please join us in welcoming them!
